FRESH BUCKS: DOUBLE YOUR SNAP DOLLAR AT THE NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET

Nashville Farmers’ Market customers who utilize the SNAP program receive $1 in Fresh Bucks tokens for every SNAP dollar they spend using an EBT card.

Nashville Farmers’ Market customers who use EBT cards for purchases can receive $1 in Fresh Bucks tokens for every SNAP dollar they spend..

Did you know that one in nine Tennesseans struggle to put healthy food on the table and one in eight children in Tennessee face hunger? We believe that everyone should have access to fresh, healthy food. That's why we work with our local farmers to accept SNAP/EBT purchases and then double those purchases with our Fresh Bucks program.

How the program works

With Fresh Bucks, doubling your SNAP dollars at the Nashville Farmers’ Market is easy as 1, 2, 3!

  1.  Use your EBT card to purchase fruits, veggies, meat and more from participating farms at the Market.

  2. Bring your EBT receipt to our info booth in farm shed 1 (booth 173) on Saturdays and Sundays any time between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. to exchange your receipt for tokens. Every SNAP dollar you spend equals a $1 Fresh Bucks token—doubling you SNAP spending power!

  3. Use your tokens just like cash at those same participating farms on any food item.

how THE PROGRAM helps

The Fresh Bucks program allows our customers who are enrolled in the EBT/SNAP program to increase their purchasing power at the farmers' market, improving access to fresh, healthy food for individuals and promoting public health in our community. By doubling customer purchases at our farms’ booths, the program adds additional revenue to our small, local farmers who are dedicated to keeping Nashville fed.

The History of SNAP Incentives at Nashville Farmers’ Market

Beginning in 2015, our market participated in a pilot program funded by AARP and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to increase awareness, accessibility and purchasing power for shoppers utilizing the EBT/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Through this initial program called Fresh Savings, many of our farmers and producers began to accept EBT in order to participate in this initiative.

In 2019, our Fresh Bucks program was born from the roots of the initial Fresh Savings program. It is modeled after SNAP incentive programs operating at farmers' markets throughout the United States. The program allows participants to buy more fruits, vegetables, lettuce, herbs, dairy, honey, eggs, meat, poultry and more when using your EBT card.

Currently, the Fresh Bucks program is funded by the Tennessee Department of Health’s Project Diabetes initiative to increase access to healthy lifestyle choices, including food.
