Market Volunteer

Resolve to Help the Market in 2009!
Volunteers are the key to a great farmers market.
This upcoming year we have big plans for special and on-going events to help grow our market.
We need your help to make them a success.

Can you spare a few hours to help guide shoppers to where to find a delicious produce, lend your photography talents, hand out samples of delicious locally grown tomatoes? Think about donating a few hours to make the Market great in 2009!

Volunteer Opportunities:

*Chefs at the Market - beginning May 2nd, the Market will host local chefs preparing delicious dishes with products from our Farm Sheds. Cooking demonstrations begin at 11 a.m., and require a volunteer (or two) to help set up the JennAir cooking station and assist our chefs during the demo, and then wrap it all up until next week. Chefs at the Market volunteers receive a free Farmers’ Market apron!

*Market House Grand Opening Party - we’re pulling out all the stops to celebrate the completion of our Market House renovation in 2009. Friday, May 2nd will feature an invitation only benefit gala, with food from our Market House restaurants, locally brewed and distilled beverages, great local music and much more. We need help setting up, and breaking down the event, assisting guests, tending the information booth,

*Saturday Information Booth - with so many exciting events and vendors at the Market, we need your help guiding customers so they have a convenient and stress free shopping trip. Our information booth guides shoppers to what’s new every Saturday at the Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
*Ugly Tomato Festival - The Farmers’ Market is famous for its delicious and vast supply of locally grown heirloom tomatoes. Every summer we celebrate the inner beauty of heirloom tomatoes, and this year we return the tomato tasting to the Farm Sheds and need your help to showcase the flavors of delectable locally grown tomatoes. We’ll need volunteers to prepare tomatoes in our commercial kitchen, help set up and tend to our tasting station and of course, help clean up.

*Market Garden Days - The Market is partnering with our friends in the farming and gardening community to host Saturday morning classes to grow your own fresh herbs, vegetables and flowers. We need help assisting teachers and setting up an outdoor classroom in the Market Garden.

*Market Surveys - We are growing! And we need your help to measure the increased foot traffic and sales throughout the Farmers Market. Three times this year; May, July, October) we will be counting and surveying our customers to gauge our growth and better serve our customers. We will need volunteers to do the monotonous task of doing an approximate count for each area of the Market, and some friendly folks to ask shoppers about what they are buying and their Market experience.

Volunteers are required to have a love of food and our local farms, a friendly face, good attitude, boundless energy and the ability to both take direction and lead the way for the other.
We ask for volunteers to fill out a volunteer application and email it to our Marketing Manager, Marne Duke.
