Food Trucks "Market Takeover" at NFM!
April 26, 2014 at 6:00 AM
MARATHON VIEWING PARTY, 6-11 A.M.
The “Market Takeover” will kick off at 6 a.m. with a St. Jude Country Music Marathon and 1/2 Marathon viewing party to be held on site. Free and open to the public, the viewing party will include food truck fare and beer, wine, and nonalcoholic drinks for purchase. There will be live music as well as a visit from Nashville Mayor Karl Dean.
If you’ve got loved ones participating in the marathon, you’ll want to watch it with us – we’ll have a fleet of food trucks serving up brunch treats, and the market house provides a fantastic view of the race itself and our gorgeous downtown. We’ll have live music and our fair city’s fine mayor, Karl Dean, will pay a visit.
Marathon officials have put together a helpful map with road closures for the race; check back here for additional tips for traveling to the viewing party.
This is free, open to the public, and all-ages. However, if you want a VIP experience we’re going to offer that, too. Click HERE for a link to purchase tickets that include primo viewing area, catered brunch by Riffs, and two drink tickets.
MARKET TAKEOVER, 12-6 P.M.
The “Market Takeover” continues when more than 15 Nashville Food Truck Association trucks bring their fare to the Nashville Farmers’ Market, with an all-ages event that runs 12-6 p.m. Free and open to the public, “Market Takeover” will feature live music, beverages for purchase, and seasonal menu items from the following trucks (so far – more to come!): Riffs Fine Street Food, Smoke Et Al, Grilled Cheeserie, Jonbalaya, Music City Pie Co, Retro Sno, Delta Bound, Bacon Nation, Two Guys in a Lunch Box, Hoss’ Loaded Burgers, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, Hip Sweet Subs, Smoothie King, and Julia’s Bakery.
You’re going to want to use that on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram at the event, because you just may win a mess of free stuff.
This event will have a large social media component. All the food trucks will offer menus of their choosing, but once on site Nashville Farmers’ Market’s Laura Wilson will ‘unveil’ a secret ingredient via internet video, which will be posted on Nashville Food Truck Association and Nashville Farmers’ Market Facebook and Twitter platforms. All participating trucks must incorporate that ingredient into their existing menus. Food truck chefs will respond by posting photos and videos showing their use of the ingredient. And you? We want you to post photos and videos, too. Don’t forget to tag #markettakeover when you do, because a panel of judges will choose favorites and you may score big prizes. You’ll also help the trucks with the chance to win bragging rights by receiving the most photos represented on social media.
Not to be missed: come to the Market’s Grow Local Kitchen at 3:30 p.m. to see members of the local media compete in a street food contest. They will prepare an offering by using ingredients supplied by the trucks, and a panel of food truck chefs will select a winner. It’s going to be food truck fusion and it may result in the best street food offering in the world. Maybe.
We are stoked to be at the market in peak spring weather, and can’t wait to see what the season brings. See you at Market Takeover!
