Dirty Pages event features stories behind the recipes
(Photo: Sumbitted by Grace McKinney)
Every cook has that one stained page, that one recipe that resonates deeply and connects her to the past.
Three women — Jennifer Justus, Erin Murray and Cindy Wall — all food writers and succesful in their own right, decided to put together an event to celebrate those time-worn recipes and the women behind them.
Aptly named Dirty Pages, it will stand as an exhibition of old recipe pages, photos of the women and the stories that inspired them. It will run March 18-April 19 at the Nashville Farmers Market and include public programs during that month.
On a tastier note, a kickoff dinner on March 19, cooked by men who want to honor the women in their lives, will take place at 6:30 p.m. and feature food by Matt Bolus (The 404 Kitchen), Vivek Surti (VEA Supper Club), Sam Tucker (Village Provisions-coming soon), Karl Worley (Biscuit Love Brunch), Hal Holden-Bache (Lockeland Table), and Levon Wallace (Cochon Butcher-coming soon). Tickets are $75 and selling fast. They can be purchased online at www.dirtypages.org.
The real stars of the evening will be the women themselves who are participating and the stories they will tell. Proceeds from the evening benefit Mesa Comal, the entrepreneurial commercial kicthen inside Conexión Américas.
