KROGER PRESENTS GENEROUS HELPINGS AT THE NASHVILLE FARMERS’ MARKET
Featuring More than 30 Local Restaurants Benefitting Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee

NASHVILLE, TN (March 20, 2011) –Kroger and Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee announce the return of Generous Helpings – a tasting event featuring more than 30 locally owned restaurants – on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 5:30 pm at the Nashville Farmers’ Market. The evening will feature tastings of signature appetizers, entrees and desserts along with fine wines and beer selections from local distributors.  Additionally, many participating chefs will feature local meats, cheese and produce. 

All proceeds from the event will provide much needed funding for Middle Tennessee's Table, Second Harvest Food Bank’s grocery rescue program.  The program rescues and redistributes nearly 5 million pounds of food from more tan 200 grocery stores annually.

Tickets for Generous Helpings are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. This year, Second Harvest Food Bank will also be offering a Generous Helpings patron’s ticket for $125. Kamikaze Chef Comes to Grow Local Kitchen

Colleen Egan is a home chef who likes to entertain friends and family with tried and true recipes as well as experiment with unique flavor combinations. With no formal training, she's learned everything she knows from experimentation and watching the Food Network. She found herself getting inspired by programs to make new dishes with what she had in her pantry and fridge, but then ended up with full meals and no one to eat them! Now she cook for friends, family and  new faces in her home or in a host kitchen many times a year.

Colleen says...

I came up with this idea after watching years of the Food Network, trying my own recipes and hosting friends for dinner as often as possible. I wanted to turn it into something fun, something new and came up with The Kamikaze Chef.

Here’s how it works: my guests sign up to bring one item listed in the invitation, plus 1 beverage to share, and I promise a delicious meal and good company.

The items in the invitation are just food groups (i.e. protein, starch, vegetable, dairy, etc), so I don’t know exactly what they are bringing. I take their offerings and make a full meal, using all of the ingredients they bring, plus anything I have in my pantry or refrigerator. I get to plan one vegetarian entree and 2 appetizers, but I have to use everything they bring for the other courses and dessert.

We start the night early so I can figure out the menu while my guests start on beverages, appetizers and connect with old friends or make new ones. Guests can get very creative and the mystery ingredients range from the everyday rice and garden tomatoes to haddock filets and Japanese sweet potatoes.

I also get to pick a theme (Italian, Mexican, etc) before hand, but I don’t tell my guests what that theme is. That allows me to stock my pantry/fridge with the mandatory spices/aromatics I know I will need for that theme. One of my friends usually steps up to help serve as my sous chef and, as of right now, I have access to resources on the internet. If someone shows up with something I’m not familiar with, they’ll WANT me to find out how to prepare it.

The 1st Annual Veterans Crawfish Boil - Nashville, Tennesse will take place on Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 from 4PM - 10PM located in Nashville at the Nashville Farmers Market!

This event is in support of our Military Veterans and Active Duty Soldiers that have been wounded in combat. With your help and attendance we can raise funds to help our wounded soldiers and at the same time you'll have a great time at this wonderful event.

The Nashville Crawfish Boil 2012 features All-You-Can Eat Boiled Crawfish fresh from Southern Louisana, Corn on the Cob, Potatoes, Bottomless Beer, Sodas, Water and Live Entertainment! The Crawfish Boil welcomes you to to this exciting event to experience the best crawfish in nashville providing by the Louisiana Seafood Company which will be providing the best Southern Louisiana Freshly Boiled Crawfish.

Proceeds will go to benefit our wounded active duty and military veterans in cooperation withOperation HomeFront and the Louisiana Seafood Company.

The Return of...Night Market!

Night Markets return for the 2012 season!   Join us for this third Friday event. This first one in June will be the very first time the ENTIRE Market will be open for Night Market & will be our biggest one yet. Our farm side will be overflowing with delicious local produce, meats, cheeses, milks, and more.   Our Market House restaurants and shops will be open special hours and with special menus.  Our Market House merchants who normally can come only Saturdays will be bringing it Friday for you. Our Flea Market side will be open to regular merchants and tons of special guests this evening.  Our Grow Local Kitchen will also be making its first official Night Market debut! Music in all three areas and so much more. Get ready to shop, sip, and sample the best of what local has to offer--come Grow Local with us as we kick off Night Market 2012!
