When Chef Andrew Hunter of The Acorn Restaurant was fourteen, he helped build a children’s home in Haiti. He fell in love with the culture & its people. Chef Hunter wants to help build again in Haiti—this time instead of a hammer & nail, with a fork & spoon! Join Chef Hunter & friends on Sunday, March 14th from 5pm-8pm at the Nashville Farmers’ Market to do just that. Sample delicious foods from local restaurants, listen to great local music by Suzahn, enjoy wine, and an incredible silent auction while supporting Haiti’s Visitation Hospital Foundation. Tickets are $15/person and you can register at www.visitationhospital.org
Chef Hunter describes Haiti: “When I was in Haiti, I was constantly struck by how happy the people were. In the face of devastating poverty & deprivation—Haitians everywhere were smiling, laughing. We would work together in 103 degree weather and at the end of the day they would pull out drums and begin playing; celebrating each day and every small step we made together. It truly changed the way I looked at life and I want to do what I can to give something back to a country that has given me, and so many others, so much.”
Local chefs are teaming up to offer you delicious samples of their restaurant specialties. Participating restaurants include: City House, Midtown Cafe, Cabana, Sunset Grill, Rumba, Jackson’s, Tayst, The Yellow Porch, Caffe Nonna, F. Scott’s Restaurant & Jazz, Park Café, Miro District, Chappy’s on Church, & Macke’s. Silent Auction items include: original artwork by local artists, gift cards from local restaurants, shops, & much more.
Visitation Hospital is one of the only surviving hospitals in Haiti. They are struggling to care for both earthquake victims, run their clinic, and care for existing patients & they need your help!
